and will not be able to make that change of policy come about in the Church of England; there is an overwhelming majority within the church and the wider Anglican communion that is strongly opposed. He has commited himself not to act in opposition to the stated church policy on the matter. Also the basis of his argument is that the material in the bible on the matter only relates to straight people adding spice, whereas it is equally valid to argue that this is what God wants to say on the issue. It depends how seriously we take the argument that God is really in control of the content of the bible, and how far it is 'accidental'. |
