Oh come on, your response is as valid as Reasoned’s response that slavery when practiced righteously was a moral institution. Excuse me but I don’t think so. Slavery was never moral.

Yes the Bible endorsed slavery. In fact Southern slave owners cited the Bible as a mandate to own slaves. The Bible did not condemn slavery; it meekly asked that slaves be treated a little less harshly. That is an endorsement and not an admonishment.

It couldn’t condemn slavery because back then it was a commonly accepted practice. Before, during and right after the time of Jesus it would have been very politically and financially stupid to build a church that prohibited slavery. God does work in mysterious ways, accepting slavery was a cost of building his church.

Since those days society has rejected the Bible’s teachings and condemned the practice of slavery. The Bible unfortunately reflects the time it was written.
