Is it the unattainable that attracts us?

I remember thinking that blond white boys are so unattractive back when I lived somewhere that such boys were the majority. Then when I moved to where I currently live, I thought surely, these dark skinned boys are the most beautiful in the world. Well...I just got back from a trip to somewhere that once again, blond white kids are the norm, and I must say...they are pretty hot. It seems like the more out of the ordinary they are, the more attractive. So, are we all naturally attracted to what we cant find?
