Here is another selection from John of the Cross. I have really been getting a lot out of this guy, myself. I hope someone in here likes it too. "Determine in your heart that you want to reach the highest place in God. By that, I mean, learning how to live each day in pure, loving oneness with Him. And once you have set your heart on this upward path, you will have to choose it every day, and many times durring each day. For indeed your desire to rise to higher places in spirit will face many obstacles. Now I will tell you about the first of these challenges, so that you will understand the operations of God's Spirit and not be discouraged when it occurs. When you give your soul to God, and ask Him to transform you and flood you with His holy light, you are asking Him to fill your soul to it's full capacity with Himself-that is, with the living flame of His love....Only in this way is it possable for the soul to find it's way into a state of oneness with Him. When His love first comes, we percieve it as fire, and that is because His first work is to purify and cleanse the soul of sin and selfishness and fear and anger. Though this purifying and cleansing causes many to turn back, it's purpose is to make us clear in spirit-clear as pure crystal, so that He may be seen in us."
