This reminds me of a story I read once and which I still have around here some where. In "The Final Fighting of Fiahonn Mac Cumbhaill" Ocsa MacFinn--300 years after the time of Finn MacCool--asks Padraic, "Do you mean that this God of yours has condemned my father to everlasting torment just because they've not been properly introduced?"

That the Scriptures do admonish us not to judge who will be in Heaven and who won't be. Personally, I answer this question thus: through the image and icon of God writen within humans, society has the right ideas in general, but it was through the Jews and the Mosaic Law that the Law was codified. Hence, the exact form of marriage differes in every society, but all have some form of marriage and hence some form of adultery. And the same for personal property, human dignity, etc. At the time of Moses these ideas were written in stone. Now under the New Covenant (mentioned by Jeremias) the same laws are written on the hearts by the Holy Spirit.
