Gehnna was used as a symbol, because it would be difficult for the people to imagine a place so horrible. Hell is a place sepparate from God. This is torture for the soul, and so fire is torture to the flesh. The lake of fire is where Satan and his sidekicks will be cast at the end times, but no-one knows for certain if there is really a fire. God knows how to torure and destroy souls over and over again. I'm not in too big a hurry to find out how. |
