One might make the case that that was exactly what God did in the Old Testament, with the 10 commandments. That He knew man was incapable of keeping them, yet He still asked it of us. This is only true, in the context of us living up to God's request on our own strength. Jesus came to show that we are capable of living up to God's desires through Him, and with His power within us. As the saying goes, "I can do ALL things through Christ, who strengthens me." |
