well, as of now, i've even changed it. it's going to say: "A pedophile is someone that is sexually attracted to pre-teens. The main character of this story is not a pedophile, but rather a heterosexual. There is absolutely no basis given in the story that he is attracted sexually to children (I will get this backed up by some MD's on campus). In fact, ??% of incest and child abuse cases are purpetrated by those diagnosed as a hetereosexual, and not a pedophile. One wonders how someone can grow up to abuse a child. This story was an attempt to explain one of the thousands of ways that exact question. Low self esteem, emotional isolation, and a traumatic past are common symptoms that lead to heterosexual abuse. The fact is that many that abuse are in just as much pain as the abused. And yet we spit on them as a society. My hope with this project was to show an Abuser as a human being with problems, and not as the monster society deems him (or her) to be. I think i like that monologue better. What are your opinions? |
