Pedo-bashing church story (sigh)

(Not really, well sort of, see below, but now that I have your attention....) [Note - I'm the resident non-BL. I'm posting this right after my own intro ("guest introduction (long)", linked below) to give you a better idea of who I am. If this post is out of bounds for this forum, please email me with specifics so I don't go out of bounds again.] I was chatting earlier today in IRC with x_ (not his real handle). He left the church in part because they condemn pedophiles (hence the title of this message). I explained to him that my denomination (whose name is unimportant) condemns outside marraige (and therefore sex with kids outside of marraige), but not pedophiles per se, and that I've done things that (in the eyes of God) are just as much deserving of condemnation as I beleive sex with kids is (if you want to argue that point, please keep it to private mail, thanks). I also told him that if I found out he did have a physical relationship with his YF, I'd (proverbially) hang him by his ears, BUT that I'd hang in there with him and need two pieces of (proverbial) rope - one for his ears, one for mine - since I'm not about to let someone I care about suffer alone if I can help it. I also told him that God forgives (or we'd all be roasting in eternity). I gave him the name of this forum (for which he thanked me), he may recognize himself in this story. Please pray that God would watch over him (God knows who x_ is). By the way, the two saddest parts of the chat above for me were 1) x_'s falling away from the organized church [he may be a Christian, I didn't ask] and 2) his denomiation's actual or perceived hate of pedophiles (can you say "love your neighbor" - I *knew* you could - too many Christian churches seem to have forgotten how). If any of you were chased away from your church for your orientation, please know that many churches, while they condemn sex with kids, will love you for who you are and will love you even if you do fall and have sex with kids (they will call the police, but they will still love you). And of course you already know God loves you no matter what and won't revoke your ticket to heaven for anything you do here on earth (if he would, *I'd* be roasting with the marshmellows when I died). -d (non-BL at large) PS: I've linked to my intro in case you missed it. |
