[An answer from a token straight person] Issues for me include: Age of consent (at what age can a teenager consent to something this serious, given that he can't consent to buying cigarrettes, signing a contract, joining the millitary, voting, etc.). Respect for parents (goes hand in hand with age of consent) Respect for the law and society Marraige/lifetime committment Homosexual acts When dealing with non-Christians, I can use logic on the first four but I can't see any non-religious logic to telling two people in a lifetime partnership they can't engage in homosexual acts (or for that matter, denying sex the unmarried heterosexual who is in a lifetime partnership). On the other hand, when dealing with non-Christians, I'm a lot less concerned with the state of their lifestyle than the state of their heart with respect to God. When dealing with Christians [and other people of a faith with similar teachings], I can show teachings which say homosexual acts are contrary to God's teachings (granted, there is some debate on these teachings in scholarly circles). -d (david_tx on IRC) |
