I think that's a very healthy attitude to take, and the alcohol analogy is a great one. I think that, while it's important to keep an open mind about this subject on the theoretical level (I don't know the answer myself), we do have to keep in mind that some people have difficulty with self-control in this area, so it's no good making ultimate statements like, "Masturbation is healthy and helps us as sexual beings" – we have to say, "Masturbation by who?" Because for some people it's just not like that.

I doubt there's any biblical passage that can be used to prove masturbation as sinful, any more than there's any biblical passage that can be used to prove adult-child sex as sinful. I think that one has to tackle the matter through biblical principles. I'd like to make a case for masturbation and sexual fantasies in terms of it being a natural part of the person, but what I keep coming back to is the idea that sex was designed for the purpose, not of pure physical pleasure, but of uniting two people. If somebody could convince me that solo masturbation helps to unite two people, I'd be more favorable toward the idea. (Of course, I realize that many boylovers are in a specially hard position, since they may not be able to unite sexually with another person.)
