I know what you mean about kids singing! During the last two weeks, I was privileged to go along as piano accompanist with our junior high choir to two Christian music festivals. The first one was judged. All kinds of junior high choral groups, vocalists, instrumental groups, and soloists performed, and it was wonderful seeing them do so well.

The second festival consisted of individual choir performances followed by a mass choir of 350 kids. One of the choirs' rendition of "In the First Light" was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes, especially the words: "As his mother held Him closely, it was hard to understand that her baby, not yet speaking, was the Word of God to man. He would tell them of His kingdom, but their hearts would not believe. They would hate Him, and in anger, they would nail Him to a tree."

Then I got to accompany the mass choir on piano. The sound of 350 junior highers praising God is overwhelming. Shivers went through me as I played and they sang.

BTW, Handel's "Messiah" is called an oratorio. Each Christmas I accompany a community choir that sings it, but unfortunately we don't get any kids in it. There is a rock version of the Messiah available on cassette and CD, called "Handel's Young Messiah." There are actually two versions--the earlier one is much better in my opinion. I really love it. It is very driving, and it is pretty faithful to Handel's original score. The newer version is more like soul, and not nearly as upbeat or true to the original.

(Oh, and you gave a wonderful response to jm!)
