Mind you, I didn't have to go through anything that draconian, but that's partly because it wasn't a live-in program. I agree with you that the sort of buy-sell mentality encouraged in such programs is exactly not the sort of idea you want to be planting in impressionable young minds. The kids grow up with the idea that unless they receive an immediate reward for being good, there's no point in being a good person. Just awful. I'm actually more concerned by the buying than by the fining. Real boot camps, with their very harsh do-or-die approach, would never think of doing what this organization is doing – the goal of boot camps is to develop pride in the participants, so that the participants are eager to help the community rather than follow their own selfish path.
