Well, I see that our resident non-Christian has done a better job than I could of providing Jesus' possible perspective on the matter. :) (And what Triple Q failed to mention is that he has the Gospels down pat.) It's like the old saying: the courageous aren't those who are without fear but those who feel fear and remain at their posts. Likewise, one has only to glance at the Gospels to realize that the people Jesus admired most were ones who had struggled with temptation and in some cases even sin, because they knew more than the "good" people did how dependent they were on God. It sounds to me as though you're on the right path. Even the people who don't have major temptations in their lives never cease to struggle with minor temptations, so the fact that you're having to work at these matters isn't a sign that you're alienated from God – quite the opposite. If you were alienated from God, you wouldn't be bothering to struggle.

On the question of loneliness: yes, one doesn't need to be a boylover to feel that way. It's hard for single Christians to find a place in the world that values sexual relationships above all others. Hopefully, some of the friendships you make with people on this board will help to fill your emptiness.

If you haven't already done so, you might glance at the FAQ linked at the top of the index, just to orient yourself here; we're glad to have you here.

Heather (the resident non-boylover)
