Jim: First, you sound p*ssed at SGitNW. You have every right to be. Very p*ssed. Please, try to be nice to him - hopefully, it will rub off. It took me months to begin to see that some of the "non-core" religious-based attitudes I inherited from my parents and church need to be reinvestigated (as to whether they will be changed or not, time will tell - but I need to either "take ownership" of the attitudes or discard them, I can't just "keep them because that's the way I grew up"). This realization came in part from extended *polite* email conversations with a BC person who was willing to accept the fact that I held my views and he held his. Please don't expect SGitNW to change his religious-based attitudes overnight. But do expect him to change, slowly, if he keeps reading. My personal opinion is that SGitNW doesn't quite realize how negatively his words are being taken. A month after I started posting I didn't either (and I still don't fully and probably never will). And why should he be expected to understand - this may be the first time in his life he's encountered a group of people which has suffered for decades (millenia if you don't limit it to living people) at the hands of Organized Religion. SGitNW: Sometimes discrecion, in the form of silence, is the better form of valor. Both of you, take care. -David ("d", d_fpc@goplay.com) PS: I've been itching to dive into the theological argument between you two, but Heather's doing such a good job I won't. Thanks Heather. |
