Church of England issues report on pastoral care of pedophilic offenders

This has got to be the most amusing example of journalistic slant that I've run across in a long time. A correspondent very kindly sent me the URL of the Independent's coverage of the Church of England's new report, "Meeting the Challenge: How Churches Should Respond to Sex Offenders." The article was entitled "Abusers 'Target Church Youth'" and stated, "Vicars and churchgoers are 'naively' welcoming sex offenders into their communities out of a Christian sense of compassion, the church said in a report published yesterday." The rest of the article was along the same lines.

Well, I sent a note back to my correspondent, loudly grumbling about how Jesus must be rolling in his grave (or wherever he is), and then checked the other English newspapers. I promptly turned up the article linked below at the Telegraph. It is entitled "Churches Told to Welcome Paedophiles," and it begins, "Parish churches have a duty to welcome sex offenders, including paedophiles, into their congregations, a Church of England report said yesterday."

Cynical me thinks that the first article is going to bring about a lot of positive publicity for the Church of England, while the second article will land it in hot water.

Note that the article contains a sidebar link to a summary of the report.
