I am, however, the type of person who defends the indefensible, so I'll just say that I think the harm at Nicaea comes not from the Creed itself – which was a pretty nifty attempt to deal with some difficult biblical contradictions – but rather from the fact that the Church proceeded to solidify into stone one particular generation's understanding of the solution to the problem. These days, I would say, the Nicene Creed is very much under attack, with both good and bad results. Did you have in mind any particular aspect of Nicaea? Heather |
