"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, [1] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." 1.16 Or his only begotten Son Sorry Heather, but I don't accept the notion that whoever acts charitable is therefore a Christian, a follower of Jesus and therefore one who will inheret the Kingdom (ie - go to heaven). God made the ultimate sacrifice for us, to die on the cross for our sins, not just so that we would have a metaphor for good behavior, but so that we would realize how far he was willing to go to have a relationship with us. Certainly, helpfula and charitable people are wonderful. But our God is a jealous God (Deuteronomy 6:15) who wants our hearts to be for him, not just for being good boy scouts (and girl scouts). I think my fundamentalism comes out in this one :) You are not alone. Ben |
