I just sensed that you were putting "personal relationship with God" and "Bible" in opposition to each other. Some people (myself included) reach God through individual spiritual experiences; others (myself included) reach him through the collective history and myth of a faith community. I don't think that the second type of relationship with God is inferior to the first or any less personal. Obviously, both types of relationships have their dangers. I got your essay, by the way – I'm in the throes of the Muse right now but will get back to you when I can. Heather |
