Matthew's 9th Birthday Party (Matt 20:1-16)

Submitted by d on September 23 1999 at 14:12:40

Matthew was getting ready to celebrate his 9th birthday tonight. He and his mom bought all of the streamers, balloons, cupcakes, and other party stuff yesterday. His dad was a policeman and was called into work that morning, but he promised he would be home by 5, in time for the party.

How would Matthew get all the streamers up all by himself? And what about the baloons? And the games? This party was going to be ruined if he didn't think of something.

Then he thought of something.

He went to the playground and said "who can help me decorate for my party - you can stay for the party". Three of his friends said "Sure, we can help".

The all went to Matthew's House and put up streamers - lots of streamers.

It was getting to be about lunchtime and Matthew and his friends had tuna-fish sandwiches (Matthew liked tuna fish).

Matthew looked around and the streamers were about half done. Uh-oh. Only 4 hours to go and they still had to finish the streamers, the balloons, and the games.

Matthew told his friends to keep decorating, while he went back to the park. His same friends were there, and he asked again "who can help me decorate for my party - you can stay if you want to".

Another 3 of his friends said "Sure, we can help". They all went back to Matthew's house and finished putting up the streamers and the balloons. Ohmygosh, it's 4 o'clock! How will the 7 of us ever get all the games up by 5?

Matthew said "hold on, you guys start getting the games up, I'll be right back."

Matthew went back to the park, and the other 3 friends were still playing. He asked them to please come and help him get ready for his party, and if they did, they could stay for the party.

They all said OK and followed Matthew home. The 10 of them finished the games and the house was all ready for the party.

UH-OH, Matthew thought. Dad only planned for 10, now we have 19 friends. So he called his dad at work.

When 5 o'clock rolled around, a car beeped. Dad needed help to get the extra cupcakes, party hats, and stuff in the house - but with 10 boys it was easy.

The party would start at 5:30.

Just before 5:30, one of the boys who worked all day putting up streamers, balloons, and games said to Matthew "I worked all day, and I'm happy to be invited to your party, but some of the kids here only worked an hour, why do they get the same thing I did?"

For the answer to the child's question, see Matthew 20:1-16

OK, your turn. Make up a modern-boy-Bible-story (probably should be in a new thread).
