Hi, Andy. I don't think it's a case of whether we believe the whole Bible. It's a question of how we apply it. The thread about adultery earlier shows that the Old Testament punishment for adultery had been changed -- if Christ was willing to permit divorce on grounds of adultery, that clearly shows he did not endorse the Levitical punishment of death in such cases. What I'm saying is, it's not enough for us to simply appropriate a verse. We have to look at the context in which it was written, and see whether our situation is similar. I'm not disagreeing with your conclusions, here. (But I don't necessarily agree with them, either.) I'm suggesting we need to examine our method for reading the Bible. Dirk |
