I think that you have to look at a couple of other translations when you encounter a passage that doesn't make much sense. Here are two more: Leviticus 18:21 NASB - "You shall not give any of your offspring *to [1]offer them to Molech, nor shall you *profane the name of your God; I am the LORD. " KJV - "And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD. " In reading these we realize that the author is saying not to sacrifice children to Molech NOR should the Lord's name be profaned. Sacrificing children to Molech was sinful because it was murder and it represented faith in some God other than THE God (Adonai in Hebrew) of Abraham. The passage could apply in more general terms to a belief in ANY God other than the one who sent Jesus to die on the cross. You are not alone. Ben |
