God Knew the future.
So.... by having , a nice peaceful uneventful death,
People of today would not be so "mortified" that someone had to suffer so unjustly, and cruel, for our Sins.
Then to be again Risen, with open arms taking us all in to his heart.

I guess a song I relate to,
by Passion, called You are my king,
Written by Billy Foote

I'm forgiven, because you were forsaken
I'm accepted, you were condemed.
I'm alive and well, your spirit is within me
Bacause you died and rose again.
Amazing Love,
how can it be, that you my king
would die for me.
Amazing Love, I know it's true,
It's my joy to honor you

So basically, That's one way to explain it.
Jesus spent alot of time on earth trying very hard to teach the people, show them the way.
Disposing of evils, and having them live good lives.
But... many seemed to want to take another route. a Route of Evil, bad, and murder, hatred,
killing, honoring idols of every sort of thing
and
this was just not cutting it.

Basically, one person, had to suffer for the sins because in the early times, of a scripture, God said he would never again damn all creation like he did with the flood.
and God chose his only son.

So be it Jesus took that cross that weighed a ton,(or therabouts, the thing weighed alot anyhow) took the beating, got nailed to the cross, and hung and died on the cross for all to watch.

Jesus, also questioned, it by saying, My God, why have you forsaken me.

But he rose again. 3 days later.
and thus, that proved to the people,
he died for their sins (and ours)

Only in our lifetime, are we allowed to experience the miracle by reading about it.
It's our choice to accept him into our lives, for the suffereing he took to free us from going to hell, or
throw him aside, and accept the challenge,
the other has to offer. burning in hell.

This probably does not answer your question
because I am not 100% versed in the bible as yet. But we all begin someplace.
