Maybe the next time I sit still for a few hours, I'll post a follow-up to my babblings on the Trinity above. For now, I'll just say that "headship" cannot be understood properly outside of the kind of self-giving love which constitutes the divine relations, and which we as Christians are all called to embody. In my oh-so-humble opinion! As for the ordination of women, I'm not sure I wanna go there, other than to observe that it's only in the past few centuries that the biblical office of deaconness has fallen into disuse, and that there are no canonical barriers to ordaining women to this position. But of course, this discussion also requires us to talk about the nature of the Church. I think that's where the real disagreements lay, and the modern debate stems from this deeper miscommunication. I haven't been keeping track of who "owes" whom email. Actually, I was thinking about telling you a story about an elephant. :^) I'll have to dig up the Boswell critique, and I'll email it to you later. Dirk |
