. . . my catechesis is now complete. :^) I think that's basically what I said, in my bumbling, round-about sort of way, although I'm not entirely comfortable with their statement that homosexuals "are to seek assistance in discovering the specific causes of their homosexual orientation, and to work toward overcoming its harmful effects in their lives." That seems to read Romans 1:26,27 as if it applies to specific individuals, and then we're left scratching our heads saying, "Who sinned, this man or his parents, that he should be gay?" I don't remember where I heard it, but another way of reading this passage is to assume it refers to societal apostacy, rather than individual sin. When we look at the way God dealt with the nation of Israel, I think that's consistent. It's the notion of covenant with a people, I think. Dirk |
