OK, so I didn't understand where you were comin' from, at least not totally. Please forgive my well-intentioned babbling if I offended you.

You're right, that moment has altered your perceptions. Now what?

Will you continue to mourn the dead idol? Or will you now begin to love the person? (I'd say, "Warts and all," but I'm sure she doesn't have any.) The good qualities, the beatific smile, will still be there. You may never recover the immediacy and innocence of your previous friendship. Isn't that part of the bitter-sweetness of life, though?

"Y' don't know what you've got till it's gone.
They've paved paradise
and put up a parkin' lot."

If you've been ignoring the phone when you know it's her uncle calling, why not call him up and explain in the most general terms possible that you've been having a rough week?

"Life's for livin', yeah, that's my philosophy." (I don't know if you're old enough to remember Mungo Jerry.)

Welcome to the human race, my friend. We screw things up quite frequently, even if no-one would ever realize it looking at us. Are you going to cripple yourself with fear and regret, or are you gonna get up and keep movin'?

Change is inevitable. The question is, what kind of change are you willing to work towards?

Love (in the manly, fraternal sense),
Dirk
