My all-time favourite Christian artist is Johann Sebastian Bach. The late Mark Heard is a solid second. His earlier stuff is good, solid rock'n'roll, but his last three albums are brilliant, introspective, heart-rending, and soulful.

Dry Bones Dance has a real country flavour to it, and it might not be to everyone's liking, but I discovered it as a recovering Deadhead, and it resonated.

Second Hand is my fave.

Satellite Sky has more of an edge to it, and it took a few times for me to get into it, but there are some real gems on this album.

Mark died of a heart attack one evening near the end of a show. He was in his early 40's, and left a wife and daughter. A year or two after his death, some of his friends got together and did a tribute album of covers called Strong Hand of Love. The funds went to support his family. Some of the people involved were Bruce Cockburn, Phil Keaggy, Rich Mullins, Randy Stonehill, The Choir, and Kevin Smith (of DC Talk).

There's also a compilation out, called High Noon. This is drawn from his last three albums, with some previously unreleased tracks. If you're only gonna get one of his albums, this is the one I'd recommend.
