There's a Bible Gateway link at the top of the CBF page that gives you access to the Bible. I think it's KJV, they might have other translations too. I once heard an interesting interpretation of the meaning of the Great Cities in the Bible, Babylon and Jerusalem. The two are the antithesis of each other. One to throw down God and set itself up as Queen, the other honours God and is the bride of Christ. The cities represent mankind, together, in community. It's together as a society that we have meaning. But we can work that community to bring lovve, or to bring destruction. The real cities that we live in today are always a mixture of the two, of Babylon and of Jerusalem. Our world has not yet been resolved into one or the other. You can find great good in our cities - always a neighbour nearby, always something exciting happening, you feel a part of the thrum of life. But you can find alienation too - a million people living together, and not a single friend; gang violence, people left destitute, forgotten. It's scary as we grow, seeing our town or city grow "too large". It wasn't like that when we grew up, it disorientates us. But it also gives us the opportunity to throw a hand across to another human soul and form the web of relationships and love that makes our town Jerusalem. Regards, F.O.D. |
