Sheesh Guys,

I want to thank Bach, Chris, Compassion and Heather for taking the time to respond.

Based on what you are saying and my instincts, I should be baptized but it is not likely that God would condemn me to Hell on that score. I can’t imagine God turning away Jews, Muslims, and Buddhists on the baptism issue. Or all of humanity born before Jesus Christ. I think God is big enough to measure the person on his/her life and not one point.

Obviously baptism is important or Jesus would not have sought out John the Baptist. Actually I am confused why Jesus felt it necessary to be baptized. But since he was baptized I should also be if just for the symbolism. Does anyone know why did Jesus sought baptism?

What I would love to do is find a Minister who would baptize me on the spot and I go on my way. Is it possible to be baptized like that? Or must you go through the “red tape?”

Once baptized, I could tackle my second issue, which is attending church. I really did enjoy services as a kid but I have traveled many miles. I am full of angst over much hypocrisy.

I just can’t face dealing with both issues at once.

I will say this of my faith. The November night my mother told me she had cancer I cried and prayed to God. I asked would she die and when. That night January 24th came into me as a dream. I woke upset and wrote it down. It turned out that the day would be the day of her first major operation. She died the next January 24th.

I never knew my grandparents except for a step grandmother who is still living. And up to that point, my few Aunts & Uncles were living. So I never experienced death in my family. The dream may have been a gift from God telling me to prepare for sorrow. After she died, I do remember how awful it was to adjust to not having someone there who always was there. The dream helped me consider the future.

I may not be the best of believers but that dream will always make me believe in God.

Thank you for caring,

Sheesh!
