my own experience with the LDS has been quite limited. A few years after I had started to repent, a couple of missionaries came to my door. Right from word go I told them that I was not interested in converting, but that I did want to find out what they believed. They came back a few times, switching off partners each time. They kept asking me to pray for a testimony that Joseph Smith was a prophet. I don't know if this was deliberate on their part, but it felt as though the discussion wouldn't go anywhere unless I did that. They promised to give me a copy of POGP several times, but each time they forgot to bring one for me. I simply assumed this was a case of not casting their pearls before swine. I've got the 1989 and the 1920 printings of the Book of Mormon, and they don't include POGP. As for the similarities between the KJV and the BoM, there are several chapters which have been quoted verbatim, even to using italics where the KJV does, and repeating the same grammatical errors. The story line is quite different, I'll grant you that. :^) Dirk |
