How Many More......

Hi Everyone, I just read the response that Hells Traveler left me after I posted an answer to his question. It is very sad and I just can't help but feel really bad about it. I tried to reach him, but he is gone, now. I hope he makes it back, and I pray he comes to know the Lord in a good and loving way. Every time something like this happens, I just find myself wondering,"How many more are out there...hurting, lonely, frightened?" Spiritual pain is just as real as physical pain, I think. It can lead to big problems in a person's life. When I thought that God had totally rejected me and I could never be saved or have a relationship with him because of my sexual orientation, I was pretty down, indeed. I started drinking again (after five years of sobriety...it was bad) and became so depressed that I almost lost everything I have...including my job. I almost took my life (thank God that didn't happen). Now I am sober and I am still on medication for depression.....but oh my God, what I had to go through! And WHY? What happened? I can tell you what happened... I was a victom of the thinking and preaching of our current Christian churches and institutions. It was a Christian counselor who made me believe that I had to be heterosexual in order for God to love me or accept me. I respected this person because of his knowlege of the Bible and his position in the church. And I know that he meant well, too, but his teaching led me to such sadness and utter dispair. I consider myself fortunate to just be alive today. How many more are "out there"? How many of God's beloved children are suffering because of "well-meaning" churches and preachers and counselors? How many are in such dispair that they feel they have no other choice but to try to convince themselves that God dosen't exist? This is really bad, brothers, really, really bad. What more can we do? Does anyone have any ideas? How can we reach more people? If our "esteemed" churches and Christian institutions are working so diligently to do this kind of crap, what more can we do to try to stop it? Anybody got any ideas? Love, Chris |
