Welcome Jack, I have spent many years masturbating regularly. For a long time I felt guilty about it, simply because it was associated with lust. But I now think, as you do, that it's reasonable to distinguish between the two. At least in principle it's possible to masturbate to reduce lust rather than to increase it. I don't think it's a simple question of sin or not sin. It depends on the circumstances and your state of mind. Some do think it's best avoided altogether. Out of interest, and following discussions here, I'm trying a period without it, and I'll report back here on what effect it has on me sometime. But I don't think it will be a failure if I decide it's better to start again in a controlled way. See my post to Ben and the replies. With love, Jules |
