Hi Rex, Yes, it was interesting that the article assumed modern western "family values" have always been there... Children were not valued in the ancient world the way they are today. As for Abraham, the thing that would have stood out to him wasn't God asking him to sacrifice his son - the "gods" demanded that sort of thing all the time - it would have been the way God interrupted and said "No, don't do it for real!" God starts out by going along with the culture and then reveals himself differently on the way... With love, Jules |
