"God can not simply come down and be with you, as he was with Moses on the mountain." If you believe that Jesus was God incarnate, then yes He can come down. And has promised (prophesied?) to return. In the meantime, there's a lot of hurt people out there still languishing for the want of a willing human being. I can not believe any God could be so neglectful as to withdraw Himself completely from some kind of spiritual contact with each and every one of us. But to answer your original post: Because so much of Scripture depends upon human interpretation for its meaning, we find that entire mutually-exclusive "Christian" churches have been built upon the interpretations alone. Which of these is founded on sand and which on rock must be for each of us to decide. But for a bit of (serious) tongue-in-cheek no-harm-meant fun:- “Leviticus18 verse 22: 'Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable. ' ” As I do not lie with a woman I cannot possibly "lie with a man AS I lie with a woman". Therefore I can lie with a man if I so choose and not fall foul of this commandment. In this context the commandment is obviously a prohibition against bisexuality. Clearly, God wants us either to be heterosexual OR homosexual BUT NOT BOTH. And do you know?
