A thought about time and people

Submitted by Jules on March 13 2000 14:37:32

I'm really aware of the need to find the right balance.

The right balance, that is, between engaging in on-line conversation in places like this and via email, and engaging in real-life conversation. Just recently, I've noticed that I feel slightly remote from other people when I've just been on-line, and I wanted to share that I think it's something we all need to be disciplined about. Many of us have found friends here, and that's especially valued by those who've always found it hard to make meaningful friendships in real life, but perhaps we should only view on-line contact as a staging post to making friends with those around us in real life, and not as a substitute.

One idea I have is to decide on certain times that I'll go on-line and come off again, and be strict about avoiding other times. What do others think? Any positive experiences? Advice for self-discipline in this?

With love in Christ,

Jules
