"There is a sense - let's not go too far down this line but I hope you understand - that as BLs we have the opportunity to show our faith by the fact that we stay celibate. In doing this there is a reality to our faith that many of the comfortable married people never get to demonstrate - at one level it is easy for them to have faith because it doesn't really cost them that much." Wasn't it Paul who urged his congregation NOT to marry, recommending marriage only for those whose lusts might otherwise get the better of them? I wonder how close to God's will this Pauline recommendation really was/is? "If it was absolutely demonstrated that Jesus isn't offering us everlasting life after I die, I would be devastated because I've built my life on that assumption - and given up lots of things to achieve it." On the one hand this seems to give creedance to my assumption that a great many people surrender to God only for what they can get. Yet, on the other hand I understand that if one wishes to climb a mountain burying one's head in the sand will not bring about the goal. So perhaps then I would ask: IF it could be shown that there IS no everlasting life for any of us after death, would you still seek to uphold the will of God? Peace be with you Rex Infinity |
