He has all this noise scrimming around his head he can't even hear me. That makes sense. A couple of other little things he seemed to be missing too. Like, I was putting homosexuality in the context of the law of Love ("love your neighbour as yourself"), and asking how it breaks that law. TO which he said "well, you have to put it in the context of God himself and his purpose for us, not just 'love'". But that's beside the point. It's just the same thing. "How does homosexuality break God's purpose for us?"

His other comment was, in view of the possible interpretation that Lev refers to idolatrous gay sex, that he was concerned that that view was seeking to despiritualise sexuality and make sex a neutral quantity. But it doesn't do that at all. If gay relationships are OK, then that is precisely because they can be made "before God", honoured in his presence, and therefore are spiritual.

And finally, asking about what sexuality itself means, and why homosexuality breaks that, he started counting the ways: "...it's giving pleasure and intimacy to another person...". Then he caught himself before he went too far - oh yeah, gays can do that too. It's like he had assumed gay relationships were all about getting pleasure for yourself, though when forced to confront his views, easily saw the flaw in his thinking.

So, I agree, he's got all this baggage he has to deal with.

But I'm afraid if I'm the one to help him deal with it, I'll quickly lose my temper with him. Maybe the car is moving, but I don't want to skid it out on the ice...

peace and love
