F.O.D., et al.!

If I understand Lutheran theology correctly, and Catholic theology from which it was derived, "Word of God" is broader than "Bible," and a phrase such as "the Bible 'contains' (rather than 'is') the Word of God" might be appropriate. The "Word" is also preached and lives in the one holy, catholic Church. And, Jesus is the "Word"! How's that for a clear, concise, easy to grasp explanation of "Word of God"!

I hold a much higher view of the creation stories of Genesis than you! I consider them both rather "useful" myths -- in the most positive sense of the word (Am. Heritage Dictionary): a traditional, typically ancient story ... that serves as a fundamental type in the world view of a people, as by explaining aspects of the natural world... I have no problem reconciling Biblical creation and evolution. (I do have a problem with Biblical interpretation and theological assertions that have creation ex nihilo (from nothing) as their basis. But that's a whole other book in explaining all the implications!)

And by the way, if I said what I believe, maybe I'd have a tough time proving that I'm a Christian!

BTW, was Jesus a Christian? Was Jesus a Jew?

Not that I'm really looking for you to answer that! Just implying that the important questions to me aren't the important questions to most "Christians"!
