Once again, on 'lust'

I'm still disturbed when I read people talk of sexual desire (usually referred to as "lust") as if it were a horror that needed to be rooted out of our very beings. When I come in contact with a person I find attractive, what I'm thinking is "How wonderful it would be to love and be loved by that person." This is not an idea I want to run from or get rid of......indeed, it's one I'm thankful for and I believe to be God-given. Whether that desire is triggered by altruism, by compassion, by religious zeal or by sexual attraction doesn't matter to me. Jesus calls us to love him and to love each other; and I think he does it in many ways. ---Ford |
