That is an interesting question which comes into the question of what was happening at Sodom, and even worse in Gibeah, where the men of the city actually do rape and kill the offered girl. (curious how no one ever mentions this story, in Judges 19, when discussing the evils of Sodom. God forbid they should ever become disenfranchised from their favourite epithets "evil sodomites" or "detestable sodomy") But it is a good point you brought up. How is raping the girl going to be better than raping the man? Is that the sacrifice one is expected to make to protect the sanctity of one's guests? To offer one's own life (or the life of one's "own") in order to protect the guest. Brings up the question of why the host didn't offer himself up rather than his girl. Definitely weird.
