If a kid can still go either way, then I'd encourage him to go straigh Not because it's necesseraly "better", but you can't deny that it's easier. There's no need for him to go trough the mess and problems we have all gone trough.

I guess that's true. It's easier to just go along with everyone else and do and think what they do, to fit in. Even today, when a friend says "caw! look at that hot chick!", I'll probably say "yeah, she's pretty enough I guess". A lot easier than explaining how I'd be more interested in getting to know the guy she's talking to.

But at the same time, if it's true that being straight is not necessarily "better", then I'm in fact more inclined to want to encourage same-sex relationships precisely because they are more difficult. That is, I would want to challenge the attitudes of the community and those who make same-sex relationships more difficult, so that it no longer becomes true that they are more difficult. I'm kind of a masochist that way, I love things to be more challenging ;) Otherwise you are perpetuating prejudice and injustice.

As for "sexual orientation", I don't really believe it exists at all. People fall in love with whom they fall in love. Everyone is ultimately bisexual, or, perhaps more correctly, just sexual. That's why, when I hear about clinical programs that turn gays into straights, my reaction is not "can it be done?" (of course it's possible for a gay guy to fall in love with a girl!), but rather "why should it be done?"
