I got a job

Submitted by Mark on May 25 2000 22:05:10

As many of you know, I've been hunting for a teaching job for the last several weeks. Several months ago I realized that I could not stay at my current school (a conservative Christian school) for two reasons. One is that the way it runs is so at odds with what I think is needed for a quality education. The other is that many people there have judgmental, suspicious, and sometimes hateful attitudes towards people who disagree with their beliefs (and especially toward homosexuals whether celibate or not).

I just had a breakthrough in my job search. I was offered and accepted a position as a math teacher at a private college-prep school. When I interviewed there, I loved the atmosphere; the kids seemed very responsible and serious about learning, but yet still kids. The teachers and administrators were very professional, competent, dedicated, and caring. The facilities and resources are excellent. Now my worry is finding a place to live in that area. But for the first time in a long time, I think I will be excited about returning to school in the fall! I thank God for this gift of new possibilities!
