Dreams

There's a peculiarity in my dreams that I wonder might be common. It's this: for years after my mother's death (in 1972) if I dreamed of her, there always had to be some explanation in my dream why she could still be alive. Usually it was something like her having disappeared and thought dead only to return later.....but there always had to be an explanation. More recently though, I can dream of her without such a device in the dream itself. Perhaps it's final acceptance?

A couple of years ago I simultaneously lost several very valuable friendships (they were all in the same family), yet they continue to be in my dreams. The same phenonemon occurs again......in order to dream of them, there must either be a reconciliation scene followed by a relatively pleasant dream, or a continued rejection followed by an unpleasant dream.

Maybe when (or if) I finally accept their loss, this requirement will disappear. Of course, a real reconciliation would be the best possibility, but the question is more about the logic (or illogic) of dreams.
