'Centurion & his servant/boy' author interviewed

Submitted by Heather on May 28 2000 03:02:48

The "Boylovers and Girl-lovers" section of Philia (interfaith news for adults who are attracted to minors) has been updated with two articles related to Pauluskerk, a Dutch church that runs a ministry to boylovers and girl-lovers. The first article describes the publication of a new booklet by Pauluskerk, Misunderstood Intimacy: A Pastoral Approach to Pedophilia. The second article is an interview with the co-editor of the booklet, the Rev. Donald H. Mader, whose name may sound familiar to some of you, because he wrote a paper on the centurion and his pais (servant/boy – the one mentioned in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke), theorizing that the centurion had a pederastic relationship with the boy. He talks about possible references to pedophilia and pederasty in the Bible, as well as Christian approaches to the subject in modern times.

The "Faith Communities" and "Sexual Recovery" sections of Philia have also been updated. In addition, each of the three sections now has a subject index to past staff-written articles.

Unconditional Love (interfaith resources for adults who are attracted to minors) has had a major update. Take a deep breath, folks, and read through the updates in each section. As usual, I don't expect everyone here to be interested in all of the resources added, but these boards are visited by people with such widely differing interests that I'll run through them all:

Faith Communities

The Church of England recently released a major report on the pastoral care of sex offenders; alas, it's only available on the Web as a Rich Text Format file, but its section on anger and forgiveness in Christian congregations is quite interesting.

I've added to the Faith Communities section a short page on clergy confidentiality, with a link to mandatory reporting laws in the U.S. states. An excerpt from a book by Philip Jenkins on clergy sexual abuse examines the question of whether therapeutic values can co-exist with Christian values. Writings by Jade Christine Angelica and Rowland Croucher look at religious communities' responses to child sexual abuse. And thanks to Gidewriter, who posted about this passage at BoyChat, I've added an excerpt from C. S. Lewis's autobiography, in which he reflects on societal attitudes toward pederasty.

A new subsection has been added on "Pederasty in the Bible," which includes links to and reprints of writings demonstrating the scholarly debate over possible references to pederasty in the Bible.

Boylovers and Girl-lovers

I've added a sermon by Donald H. Mader on the implications of St. Paul's "neither Jew nor Greek" passage for sexual minorities. "Christian Boylove Lives" has been updated with posts from BoyChat and the Christian Boylove Forum. (Thank you to the gentlemen who gave permission for their posts to be reprinted.)

Sexual Recovery

I've added a link to the article, "The Sex Offender as Scapegoat: Vigilante Violence and a Faith Community Response," which describes the development of the innovative Circles of Support program for sex offenders in Canada.

For the conservative Christians here, Exodus International North America, the ex-gay umbrella group, now has a site with resources related to pedophilia. A testimony by an ex-gay recovering offender has been added, and the subsection devoted to the writings of Bob Van Domelen, who runs a ministry to imprisoned child molesters, has also been updated. The secular and faith-based links in Sex Offender Recovery Links have been updated.

Religious Conferences on Pedophilia

This page has been completely updated; it includes links to two BL/GL-related conferences.

Internet Security Information

A link to Open Hands's security page has been added, as have some general security and privacy links.

As always, comments and suggestions are welcome; I would especially welcome thoughts by religious boylovers and girl-lovers who are not Christian, as I continue to seek eagerly for non-Christian material.

Heather (who always seems to finish updating her sites at 3 a.m.)
