Hello Tempest,

It's those times of inner peace you told of that we need to listen to. But it's hard with so many louder voices competing for our attention. It seems so natural for us to move toward what is pleasant and avoid what is painful. The problem is, especially for boylovers, that so much of the pain is generated by the misconceptions of others while some of it comes from our own mistakes. It's far too easy (especially when we're young) to believe that it all comes from our own mistakes.

Personally, I believe God made me to be a boylover and to use it to share his goodness with others. I saw this many, many years ago, but it took me a damn long time to really and truly believe it. Even then though, there was still a lot of pain in my relationships. This would have been true regardless of whether I loved boys, girls, men or women, for since I'd spent so much time concerned with who I loved, I'd never learned how to love.

I saw the other person's presence as necessary for my own identity -- without them I no longer existed. In short, I wanted the other person to give me a love that only God can give. This placed an impossible burden on him and on our friendship.

You and I are God's sons, on whom His favor rests. We have been since our conception and will continue to be forever. We have only to choose to accept and act on this identity. No one can take it from us, and no one but God can give it to us……and He's already done that. What we can do, in community, is help each other see ourselves as God sees us.
