Picking Our Confidants

To me, the primary criterion for picking a true confidant, that is one who can not only know the secret but can also be a good companion on the spiritual journey is to listen for the voice of God in that person. I think we really do have the capability of recognizing the voice of the Good Shepherd, and when we hear it we can follow in safety.

There are some people who speak to me with God's voice, but might not recognize the path I'm on. Others may be able to share my secret, but are on a completely different path. It's that person who not only speaks with God's voice, but also recognizes my path who can help most. Even then, it's still God providing the support. God's just letting another person have the privilege of being the instrument.

As was proclaimed in the readings for Pentecost, in the body of Christ, there are those with many differing gifts.
