As for "drive" and necessity, I had some second thoughts about that after posting. Perhaps it is like eating to a degree. If a person puts food in his mouth 2-10 times a day (including snacks), we would call that "normal", but if he puts food in his mouth 20 times an hour and can't slow down to normal at will, perhaps he is addicted to the act of putting food in his mouth and needs to see a psychiatrist. Likewise, if he's masturbating 6 times a day and can't slow down to what's "normal" for people with his level of testosterone, perhaps he needs to talk to someone about it (most men would also call him blessed for having that kind of stamina :^) ). Personally, I don't think masturbation is a sin unless it drives a wedge between you and God. It's not the masterbation, its the wedge-effect, that makes it a sin. Making a big deal about praying or giving alms to the poor can be a sin in that regard - Jesus practically said so. -David, "d" |
