In reply to Brillant answer - and what the bible says! submitted by Forgiven on June 17 2000 12:02:53

Forgiven,

I am aware that the Bible backs me up on my argument, but that was not the point. I made my argument without any reference to the Bible becuase I could tell that AKA was tired of people simply quoting it to prove their points without using any sort of rational argument. You can't win a debate by simply quoting your sources.

I also wanted to illustrate that my position could be arrived at and held by anyone, not just Christians, and that there is some moral code or standard (sometimes referred to as natural law) that governs even people who reject religion. By focusing on the well-being of the child, I was hoping to illustrate that actions that apparently don't harm us aren't necessarily benign to others.

Thanks, though, for pointing out the relavance of the Bible to my moral argument.
