Dear Altima,

Welcome to CBF! You don't need to apologize for your post at all. That's what we're here for. I am touched by the depth of your feelings and thoughts, and I'm glad you were willing to share with us. Anytime you feel the need to talk, you can do it here.

part of me that says "We are all just bodies of flesh and blood, endowed by an anilytical brain that has been fashoned over millions of years, and when we die, that's it. Nothing else happens, you just dissappear.

Sometime this possibility really frightens me. But what about our ability, and in fact, our need, to love? We must be more than just flesh and blood!

I just read the following, and it seems like a beautiful description of our purpose.

Perhaps we could think of each person we touch with the knowledge of the love of God as it has been revealed to us in Christ as a priceless work of art; but not a museum piece, finished and on display, but a work-in-progress by God the master craftsman. This really is an apt description of every human, especially those who have begun to be part of the new creation in Christ; with the additional fact that as we begin to participate together with God in the creative act of loving, just as Jesus did, then our own contribution becomes a part of that living, creative process. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10).

I particularly like 1 John 4:12: "No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us."

I am just now trying to learn how to put this into practice. I certainly don't have it all together; I still often have feelings of uncertaintly or shame about my orientation, and am afraid to show the love I feel. Take care,
Mark
