Mysterious ways

God works in mysterious ways. A similar "minor miracle" happened in my own life lately. I had been feeling the need this summer to donate some of my spare time and volunteer for something that would help other people. I felt that God was really calling me to do something other than watch TV when I'm not at work. Just last Sunday, I got that chance. I sing in the choir at church (if you couldn't guess from my name), and my choir director invited me to go to a charismatic prayer meeting with her on a Saturday night. My first impression was negative, since I hadn't been to a prayer meeting like that in quite a while, but then I reconsidered and told her I would go. Well, it turns out that her 15 year old son came with us. I had met him before, and we kind of hit it off, but I hadn't really had the chance to really talk with him at all. Anyway, his mom ended up singing up at the front of the church, so I sat next to him and we started chatting. One of the outcomes of our conversation was that we decided to go to Busch Gardens sometime this summer, and maybe camp overnight somewhere to take advantage of the free second day. Move forward a week, and I mention to my choir director after Mass that her son and I need to set up a weekend to go, and she seems surprised that I am really "willing" to go (as she put it, as if I wouldn't be willing!). I assure her that I am and tell her to let her son know that. Move forward another two weeks. I am approached by a staff member at my church whom I don't know very well and am asked if I would consider being one of the leaders of the high school youth ministry at my church. It turns out that she had talked with the choir director who had told her how excited her son was that I actually wanted and was planning to do something with him this summer (I had no idea he was that excited. I'm thrilled!). Since I'd had such an effect on him, she thought I might be interested in working with the other kids and helping lead the youth group. Thus, miracle of miracles, I now have a great way to volunteer my spare time to help others, and I didn't even really have to try. The Lord works in mysterious ways. Praise God! ChoirBoy |
